The Contributor Covenant is a code of conduct for contributors to free/open source software projects, created by Coraline Ada Ehmke.

The Contributor Covenant is used in prominent projects including Linux, Ruby on Rails, Swift, Golang, and JRuby.[1][2][3][4] Relevant signers include Google, Apple, Microsoft, Intel, Eclipse and Gitlab.[5][6]

Since its initial release as an open source document in 2014, its creator has claimed it has been adopted by over 40,000 open source projects.[7] In 2016 Github added a feature to streamline the addition of the Contributor Covenant to an open source project and the Ruby library manager Bundler also has an option to add the Contributor Covenant to software programs that its users create.

In 2016, the author received a Ruby Hero award in recognition of her work on the Contributor Covenant.[8][9]

  • Pls share details about feminist CoC in the linux community

11/24/2018

I read some about it on the news, yet I am not a contributor to linux, so I would like to know how serious it is from an insider's perspective. Thx in advance

I care less about the rage (even though I despise identity politics), I really believe it is bad for the quality of code if you now consider skin colour, etc. instead of pure code quality. Does not agree open software values, not even free software values

  • The Linux kernel replaces "Code of Conflict" with "Contributor Covenant Code of Conduct"

Sep 17 2018

To sum it up, this CoC is nothing but something made so SJWs can control FOSS, and with it infesting Linux, we can only see a complete downgrade on the quality of Linux, because all it takes is for people with actual talent to "offend" some special snowflake, and suddenly get banned from the project, and be replaced by people who fill some "diversity and inclusivity" quota who can't code to save their lives.

The Linux kernel development effort is a very personal process compared to “traditional” ways of developing software. Your code and ideas behind it will be carefully reviewed, often resulting in critique and criticism. The review will almost always require improvements to the code before it can be included in the kernel. Know that this happens because everyone involved wants to see the best possible solution for the overall success of Linux. This development process has been proven to create the most robust operating system kernel ever, and we do not want to do anything to cause the quality of submission and eventual result to ever decrease.

If however, anyone feels personally abused, threatened, or otherwise uncomfortable due to this process, that is not acceptable.

  • Why doesn't Linux fork over CoC?

Sep 21 2018

Like any opensource project, why doesn't the core maintainers or those who disagree with the Coc just fork to an entirely new Linux project. Let those who want to red-tape do so, let those who wish to develop a project based on the quality of the code do so.
